Another chapter of "How Much My Job Sucks" happened today. So much so, that I even contemplated leaving the company. I did leave early with an elevated blood preassure. I am now in "the hot seat". I have had my desk moved right next to my supervisor so I can be watched closer.

Not to blow my own horn but let me describe this bad employee that I have become. I work overtime when asked; granted, not as much as I did a year ago...but you'd think the company would like that. I even give up time on my son's visitation weekends; something I had not done when he was younger. I have had people in other departments who handle my orders after I do, to process them and get them shipped, say to me on many occasions that they are always surprised when they have to cancel an order of mine due to an error in how it was entered. They can always count of my orders being done correctly and efficiently. When I was questioned about my production I had my numbers back where they were supposed to be within days.

Yes, this is the kind of employee you want to make think about leaving.

I have for eight and a half years loved my job and been proud to tell people where I worked. I'm not so sure I can say those same words in the past six months. In the past two weeks it's been harder and harder to hold on to that sentiment. In the past 10 hours I've not even been able to say any of those words.

I am going to try to hold onto my job and fight for my own dignity as an employee. I just hope it's worth it.

I just wanted to share this comment that a co-worker and I shared after you left today. This co-worker wanted to make sure you would remember to come in tomorrow to be paid for Monday. After assuring him that you would, I proceded to tell him that "People need to start realizing that it is not the small stuff that needs to be sweated and there are bigger things to worry about." Needless to say he knew I was speaking about the mgmt of our company. I then continued..."I believe that the 'big ones' are focusing to much on small stuff and not enough on the large stuff, this is what creates an unhappy workplace. Give it a break and concentrate on the things that will kep your 'loyal' employees happy, which in turn will make satisfied customers because people would be more then willing to go the extra step to make sure things get done correctly." I was told that was well put and he was sending it on to the company that owns ours. I then proceeded to tell him, I believe that is the biggest reason they wanted me out of mgmt, because I wanted to make sure that my team was happy and satisfied with what they were doing and if there was a problem, I wanted to know so I could do all in my power to fix it. Fortunately, we have 2 wonderful people who are teaching our mgmt how to treat people and they are willing to listen to us peons vent. Unfortunately, the mgmt is hesitent to listen because they all want to stay in the old mindset of people need to do their jobs and not socialize or have a life and they are there to watch over all this. This is definetly shown when there is a VP that walks around tossing a football in the air or swinging a golf club. Ok, Jack, this is your blog and I am done helping you vent now. Just want you to know that your friends at work on your side with all the horse poop that has been going on. One of these days we will get to walk through the building in our sumo wrestling outfits and moon all the mgmt we love to hate!!!!

I say make 'em fire you. Do all your work correctly, efficiently, but be insufferable to make them fire you. You will get unemployment payment that way.

Bastards. They are sucking your will to be you.

Oh. and make sure to do all your work while talking like a pirate on September 19....

Bast-arrrggghh-ds!!

And Patrick when you read this...

I might agree with sistermoon65, but you need to get a resume together and start looking just in case.

I understand what you are going through - when I was working for Brooks after they aquired Eckard they started the same micro-management crap. It was because they were swallowing a company bigger than them and made all management on edge. Now they had to give up the ghost and sell themselves to Rite-Aid.

Basically what I am saying is that when management starts acting that way, I find it usually means that things are not going well overall with the company. So again I would say to you and your co-workers to start polishing up that CV.

Fortunately I got out of there and onto a much better job that I hope to be at for a long, long time.
